Basquiat Poster

Had the pleasure of going to see Jean-Michel Basquiat "The Radiant Child" and I must say... if you are in the LA area or even some what close... GO SEE IT.  You have till this friday.  Lame ass me didn't really know much about the genius kid, but now I want to know more.  I was pleased with how much footage was shot of him painting, amazing to watch him work and try and think about what was going through his mind.  I could go on and on about this film, but please just go see it.  You won't be disappointed. Its showing at the Nuart Theatre in West LA

I just pre-ordered my DVD, a must have for my "sophisticated shelf"

Art and Nonsense with Ryan Clemens

Its about that time again. I will be back at one of my favorite galleries for another solo show this month.  Curbside Gallery (the place where it all began) is the place to be this Saturday night May 15th.  I have been trying new things this past couple months and am proud to show them at Curbside.  Hope everyone can make it out.  I have decided to give a little treat to everyone that shows up... so you better make sure I see you there.

Here is a little something sweet Curbside said about me :

It's that time of the month again, no not that time, time for another great art show at Curbside.  I'm super happy to have Ryan back after the success of his first solo show last year.  His new show "ART AND NONSENSE" finds Ryan really coming into his own as an Artist with work that I dare say is more mature, since he's been going more with what comes naturally instead of trying to come up with a theme or use a color palette.  In talking to Ryan it reminds me of what one of the great sculptor's said and I think it was Rodin, who said "I just chip away at the pieces that don't need".  This is a show not to be missed.

If you have been out for the art walk in awhile well the weather's warming up, Curbside's been expanded, and Ryan's super talented so now would be a good time. Hope to see you here.

Here is the info on the show :

"Art and Nonsense"
May 15h
7pm - 11pm
928 E. Santa Ana Blvd
Santa Ana, CA

sips and snacks are always ready for you.

wedding.jpg

So I have been posting this on every outlet that I have.  Please take a second to read and vote.  An old co-worker of mine and friend Danny, is up for a contest that Crate&Barrel is putting on.  He has made it out to a couple of my shows... and for what he has gone through that is very meaningful to me.  Here is There story short and sweet (pulled from the contest page)

Our love story.

We (Cristina + Danny) met in college and fell in love. Life was going perfectly but things took a difficult turn. I (Danny) started getting crazy symptoms; three days later I went paralyzed. I was diagnosed with a very rapid growing cancer and needed surgery right away. I lived in the hospital for months. She would drive over an hour everyday to see me. After 9 months of chemo and another 2 years for me to relearn how to walk, I asked her to marry me with a ring I made myself. We're so excited to get married!

Three important details about our Ultimate Wedding.

#1 - We want our wedding to represent "us" - not the formal, over-the-top, extravagant version people feel is necessary at weddings - we want to show the couple that loves picnics, bbq's, Mexican food, dance parties, and s'mores. #2 - I (Cristina) am a designer and it's important for me to make my own wedding dress. #3 - We want to represent our artistic side (we're both designers) through an eclectic gathering of mismatched colors and designs that will create their own harmony and add uniqueness to our wedding; just like us (and our guests!)

Our everyday dream day.

Our everyday dream day is pretty much every day that we get to spend together. I (Cristina) almost lost Danny to cancer so we have realized that every moment that we get to spent together is incredibly special. We treasure even the mundane moments - grocery shopping is an adventure to us! Being with each other, our families, and friends are the days that we cherish most. But since we love traveling those days that we wake up in another country seeing a new site and culture is an extra special dream day.

So please take a second to vote and have the chance to change someone's life.  You can also share this on your Facebook or Twitter.

Live painting Gallery 212 with Ryan Clemens

First off I just want to thank everyone who came out to Gallery 212 last for my live painting.  I can pretty much say it was like watching paint dry... But not in a bad way.  It did take a little longer than thought but everyone was chatting and having a great time!  The day was saved when a family friend (Russ) and my pops ran down the street and picked up a hair dryer, since I forgot mine in my other case.  So thank you for that and I know everyone watching appreciated it too!

Some more photos are posted up on Gallery 212's facebook and our friends site ZEMOR (thanks Matt for coming out and snapping some pics)

DESIGN LA

Graphic Artists Guild - LA

The Graphic Artists Guild is throwing a little shindig in Los Angeles this Friday.  This is open to all members and non-members and will be a great way to chat it up with fellow artists. I won't be able to make it out to the event due to fact that everyone decided to throw an event for this Friday and I have to pick and choose wisely.

One of the things going on Friday that I am looking forward to is the closing reception for LOOKING INTO THE SUN, a group exhibit which my friend and fellow Unseen Beauty artist Cody "Mustachio" Lusby is a part of.  Can't wait to tear up the mean streets of the LBC.
