The Art and Nonsense of Ryan Clemens

April 2010 Archives

A little something written up for me from my pal Prince Parise :

Ryan Clemens draws much of his inspiration from the torment accompanied by being the only albino African-American to grow up in his small, rural southern-baptist hometown. His miss-match array of objects and themes demonstrated in his work can almost be seen as a peripheral distraction used to avoid the overwhelming evils and hardships that were ever so present throughout his absence of an innocent childhood.

Pretty much awesome, way better with words than I am.

A full month... I can't belive I haven't updated this thing for a full month.  Ouch, sorry to my avid reader ( I know there is at least one out there).  (wrote this before I found out I had a saved entry that I never published.)

Where to start, well I have been up to my head in my "normal" job & side projects... most of them are not even for me, which sadly usually get put before my art.  Not sure how that happens.  So that would explain for the most part why I haven't been updating as much as I would like too, and the fact that I just haven't really taken the time to sit and chat with you guys.  For that I apologize.

UPDATE : 1

The above image was taken on my phone... I know what you are thinking, how can a phone (even though it is the best phone / computer ever made) take such an insane picture.  Well folks, I am about to tell you... HIPSTAMTIC.  Pretty much the exact app I was looking for photographs.  I have spent way to much on pretty much crappy camera apps until I saw this. There is no need for any other camera app on your iPhone.  I am already upgraded lenses and even bought more "film".  I could explain more but I think you just need to go check it out for yourself.

Last weekend went up to LA to grab a shirt I have been jonesing to get my hands on.  Finally made it up there and picked one up.  Buddy of mine Cody "Mustachio" Lusby is having an Art show at Harveys (the seatbelt bag company) on Melrose next weekend and wanted to do a little promoting so he tagged along, always nice having another person in the car.  Pretty much one of the best Promotions I have seen.  Here is an action shot of Cody.  Come check out Cody's opening next Friday at

Le Modern Trinket will be showing off and selling her jewels next Saturday (May 8th) at Graffiti Beach Indie Lux Pop-Up.  I have been helping her get ready for this show, she has some great new items and if you get the chance head down to Hotel Maya in long beach and check it out. Great mother's day gifts for sure.

BUTTON BUTTON, WHO'S GOT THE BUTTON??  Well its about time, but I freakin have the button now (or at least will have them next week)  Just placed an order for some 1" flair... I finally got around to getting some made, figured I would hand some out at my show coming up mid May.  I will be offering a limited amount on the site and the others will be for the show.  Come out and snag one up and make any outfit that much better... promise.

UPDATE : 5

Back at Curbside Gallery.  Proud to say I will be back at Curbside Gallery on May 15th for another solo show. Its been about a year since my last showing there (which was my first show every) and it was a great one.  Stay tuned for a full post with some sneak peeks at what will be up at the show.

This saturday night I will be heading to go see the DAVID CHOE : DIRTY HANDS screening out in West Hollywood.  Been waiting for this film to come out, and pretty siked to have gotten the tickets and now just counting down the hours.  Here is the trailer, figured this was a good way to end this novel I just wrote (or at least it felt like it)
